A septic Riser will bring access to your septic tank to ground level, eliminating messy digs and future digging fees.

What is a Septic Riser?

A septic riser consists of a black corrugated pipe that is cut to the specific depth of your tank. The pipe can be cut to provide access either just below surface level, at surface level, or above ground level. A heavy duty plastic lid is also included. The riser lid bolts on protecting children and pets from dangerous falls.

Riser Benefits:

It is recommended by tank manufacturer’s and the Virginia Health Department that all septic systems should be pumped every 3-5 years depending on home occupancy. With this schedule comes landscape disturbance, and muddy spots in the lawn. Additionally, some septic systems are abnormally deep and require an excavator to reach the tank door. If this is the case for your system then we highly recommend riser installation.

With a riser you can place access at the depth you want it. Just below surface level allows a layer of mulch or sod to “disguise” your tank access. At ground level will have some visibility, but you should still be able to easily mow over it.

Installation Process:

The first step to installing a riser is to dig down to the door of your tank, and take measurements fo the specific depth. At this point it’s a good idea to have your tank pumped out if you haven’t done so recently. After the depth has been evaluated, we install the black corrugated pipe, and fill dirt around it. Then it’s just a matter of installing the lid and bolting it closed. Concrete lids are available for special order if desired. Once your riser is installed, please remember that we will still be accessing it every few years. It’s best not to plant trees or bushes nearby as these can block access to the lid, and roots may damage your septic system.
